The North-West Regional Development Agency is a non-government, non-profit organization of public utility that operates in the field of regional development, representing the executive body of the Regional Development Council of the North-West Development Region. The Regional Development Council is formed by representatives of the 6 county councils, 6 municipalities, 6 town halls and 6 rural communes. The North-West Region (Northern Transylvania) was established according to Law 151/1998 (modified by Law 315/2004) by the voluntary association of the local public administrations from Bihor, Bistrita-Nasaud, Cluj, Maramures, Satu-Mare and Salaj counties. It is not and administrative territorial unit, neither is it a legal entity but it is the executive body of the North-West Regional Development Council. Main roles of the Agency are the following: • increasing the competitiveness of the region, particularly that of SMEs; • diminishing the existing regional disparities; • correlating the sectoral government policies at regional level by stimulating regional initiatives and by making use of the local and regional resources for the sustainable long-term socio-economical development of the region; • stimulating cooperation at interregional, national and international level.
